    LA 14 Bridge Repairs 

    Beginning at approximately 12 noon on Monday, July 6, 2009, statewide bridge crews will close the La. 14 (Old Abbeville Bridge), Vermilion Parish until 4:00 p.m. for fender system repairs.  The bridge will be closed again Tuesday, July 7, 2009 and Wednesday, July 8, 2009, from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    Apollo Rd. Closure
     
    La 93/3168 (Apollo Road) in or near the City of Scott in Lafayette Parish approximately ½ mile South of I-10 will be closed from 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2009, for railroad repair, weather permitting.  Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during this time. Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    DOTD Travel Advisories for the Independence Day Weekend

    BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) today advised drivers of upcoming work schedules for interstate and major road projects throughout Louisiana for the Independence Day weekend (Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5).
     

    DOTD Secretary William D. Ankner, Ph.D., urged drivers to use extra caution when traveling on the roadways during the upcoming holiday weekend, especially at railroad crossings.

    Chemin Metairie Open, Bonin Closing

    The Department of Transportation and Development would like to announce the re-opening of Chemin Metairie Rd at its intersection with the future Ambassador Caffery Pkwy on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.  The Department will then be closing Bonin Rd approximately a half mile south of La Neuville Rd at the future crossing of Ambassador Caffery Pkwy (LA 3073) in Lafayette Parish beginning the morning of Wednesday, July 1, 2009, for approximately 2 months, weather permitting.  The work during this phase will involve the construction of the intersection of Bonin Rd and Ambassador Caffery Pkwy.  The detour route to the south will consist of Fortune Rd to LA 89 and to the north will be La Nueville Rd to LA 89.  These detours will be posted.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    Hwy. 90 in Broussard
     
    The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will be reducing US 90 at the future Ambassador Caffery Pkwy in the City of Broussard in Lafayette Parish to one lane in the westbound direction (from New Iberia toward Lafayette) on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, beginning at 7:00 p.m. and ending before 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009.  On Wednesday July 1, 2009, beginning at 9:00 a.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane in the same area but in the eastbound direction (from Lafayette toward New Iberia) until 3:00 p.m., weather permitting, to perform needed work for the Ambassador Caffery Pkwy intersection with US 90.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    Freetown Road and Norris Rd. at Hwy. 90 Closure
     
    Freetown Road and Norris Road at the intersection with US 90 eastbound in Iberia Parish will be closed beginning approximately 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, until approximately 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2009, weather permitting, in preparation for construction of frontage roads along US 90.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    Congress and Bertrand Closure

    The intersection of Congress and Bertrand will be closed beginning Thursday June 25 at 8am and will remain closed for 5-6 days.  The contractor will be repairing water and sewer lines.  Detour routes will be made available.

    I-10 Westbound Now Open

    All lanes of traffic are now open on I-10 westbound in St Martin Parish near Henderson.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may have caused and appreciates your patience.

    Chemin Metairie

    The 2100, 2200, 2300, and 2400 block of Chemin Metairie Parkway are anticipated to be closed, beginning Saturday, June 20, 2009 and will remain closed indefinitely. The roadway will be closed due to a maintenance and repair. Detour routes will be made available. If you have any questions or comments, Mayor Wilson Viator can be contacted at 337-288-4192.

    Ambassador Caffery In Broussard

    The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will be reducing US 90 at the future Ambassador Caffery Pkwy intersection in the City of Broussard near the entrance to The Zoo of Acadiana in Lafayette Parish to one lane in the westbound direction on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, and Wednesday, June 24, 2009, beginning at 9:00 am each day, weather permitting, to perform needed work for the Ambassador Caffery Pkwy intersection with US 90.  All lanes will be re-opened at the end of each day.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    Ambassador Caffery Progress

    Repairs to inside North & Southbound lanes between Westmark & Curran complete on 6/5.   Next phase is Southbound outside lane from W. Congress to Curran.  This section will be closed at 8am Monday 6/8 for approximately 2 weeks while the contractor continues replacing concrete slabs.

    LA 10 Closure Extended

    The closure of La 10 in Melville will be extended an additional two weeks  through June 24, 2009, weather permitting.  The detour will consist of LA 105 North and LA 360.

    SafeLight Update

    The Director of the Traffic and Transportation Department, Tony Tramel, advises the following three intersections will become active SafeLight locations at 12:00:01 a.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009:

    1.      Camellia Boulevard at Kaliste Saloom Road
    2.      Camellia Boulevard at Settlers Trace Boulevard
    3.      Congress Street at Guilbeau Road
     
    Electronic enforcement of “red light running” and exceeding the established speed limit will commence at that time.  These three locations increase the total number of SafeLight locations from nine to 12. A total of 29 SafeLight locations are planned for the existing 187 Lafayette Consolidated Government signalized intersections. 
    Motorists are reminded each SafeLight location is also a fixed SafeSpeed location. 
    Motorists who travel through a SafeLight location and exceed the established speed limit may be issued a notice of civil violation by electronic enforcement equipment as part of SafeSpeed Lafayette.

    Hwy. 749 Closure
     
    On Thursday, May 21, 2009, LA 749 (Airport Road) will be closed in Opelousas (St. Landry Parish), 0.5 miles North of US 190, for power line repairs.  The detour will consist of US 190, LA 182 and LA 10.  Work is expected to last between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., weather permitting.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    US 190 in St. Landry

    Beginning Monday May 4, 2009, westbound lanes on US 190 over US 71 overpass in St Landry Parish will be allowed to travel on the newly constructed bridge structure.  The eastbound traffic will shift to the inside lane of the westbound side Tuesday, May 5, 2009.  Westbound traffic will be maintained in the outside westbound lane.  Posted speeds will be reduced.  There will also be restrictions on oversized loads.  Louisiana DOTD regrets any inconvenience this necessary work may cause and appreciates your patience.

    Congress St. Construction

    Tony Tramel, Director of the Traffic and Transporation Department, announced the two lanes on the Congress St. bridge between Theatre St. and Monteigne Dr., adjacent to Bayou Shadows Apartments, will be closed at 7am on Monday (05/04/09). The four lanes on the bridge will be reduced to two lanes, providing one traffic lane for each direction of traffic flow.

    Travelers are urged to use available parallel routes of Johnston St. and Eraste Landry Rd. during this bridge reconstruction project. Traffic lanes will remain closed approximately 2 months while half of the bridge substructure is being repaired.

    The contractor will close the remaining two lanes for an additional two months only after opening the lanes originally closed.

    An additional 60 days is anticipated to complete the repairs once the traffic is re routed to the newly repaired bridge lanes. Alternate routes will be posted.
