Equipment assistance for disabled and eldery displaced by Ike

Individuals who live with any and all types of disabilities including the elderly and who were forced to leave wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers, canes, and other type of medical equipment and assistive technology behind when they evacuated from the path of Hurricane(s) Gustav and Ike may now call LATAN for assistance in replacing devices. The toll free number is 800.270.6185

The Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (LATAN) is now operating a statewide Equipment Distribution Program poised to receive donated equipment and distribute it to individuals who need the devices in the shelters.

LATAN is also accepting assistive devices in good working condition from citizens who are in a position to donate their gently used Assistive Technology items.  "At this point, we have many requests for wheelchairs and we are working diligently to address and fulfill the needs, " says Julie Nesbit, LATAN President and CEO.  "We also have requests for walkers, canes, hospital beds, potty chairs, and shower chairs," says Nesbit.

To donate equipment, volunteer or make a monetary donation please contact LATAN. The organization is also submitting and procuring grants from foundations and agencies in the effort to purchase AT equipment for the displaced and individuals in need. Foundations supporting this effort are great partners in this effort and are invited to contact LATAN.

LATAN is a statewide 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) non profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals with disabilities achieve a higher quality of life and independence through access to assistive technology as part of their daily lives.  It is headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with satellite offices in Shreveport and Monroe, Louisiana.
