Freeze Plan Implemented for Lafayette Parish

Emergency Freeze Plan Implemented Tonight For Those In Need

LAFAYETTE, LA – To combat life-threatening cold temperatures, the Outreach Center's day shelter, The Well, will open its doors for "Freeze Plan" tonight, Wednesday, December 10.  When temperatures are near freezing, the Outreach Center's Well shelter offers a safe haven for men and women with no other place to turn to escape the freezing cold.  Anyone needing a warm bed and a meal should arrive at the Well by 8 p.m. In the past, Freeze Plan nights have offered shelter to 20 - 50 persons on average.

During these times the Outreach Center appeals to the community for donations needed to generate safe comfortable warmth for people exposed to the harsh elements. Food items such as hot soup and gumbo, sandwich ingredients like bread, meats and cheeses as well as coffee and hot chocolate are needed to provide a warm meal. Donations of blankets, gloves, coats, pants, socks and long-lasting pocket hand warmers are also essential. Paper and plastic goods donations are also encouraged, such as paper towels, toilet paper, plates, cups and eating utensils. Cash gifts are needed as well to keep this vital service operating.

Deliveries can be made to the Outreach Center located at, 125 S. Buchanan St., between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. After 5 p.m., any donations should be dropped off at The Well, located on the corner of Second and South Buchanan streets.

The Outreach Center helps more than 70 people a day through the Well, a day shelter for our neighbors in need. To make a donation or for more information, call 237-7618 or visit acadianaoutreach.org.
