Federal Health Officials Recommend Schools Reopen

U.S. Health Officials are no longer advising schools to close if students come down with swine flu.  Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says the swine flu virus has turned out to be milder than they first expected, and the government decided to change its advice. She says so far, the virus is no more infectious or deadly than the seasonal flu.

Westminister Christian Academy Headmistress Merida Brooks says all students return, Wednesday, except three until they're no longer ill.All Ascension Episcopal Schools, including the downtown campus will reopen, Wednesday, as well.

Catholic schools open a day later. The Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Anna Larriviere says  students attending Cathedral Carmel, Our Lady of Fatima, St. Pius Elementary, St. Cecilia School, and St. Thomas More will return to school, Thursday. Larriviere drives home that local school officials, and state and federal health officials don't want sick kids at school. Students who tested positive for Type A flu and the H1N1 virus are to stay home until thier healthy again.

Initially, students were scheduled to return to school, Monday after the state recommended schools stay closed until next week.
